John's rise in the photographic world has been due to his commitment, dedication and enthusiasm. He is one of the founder members of  Mallow Camera Club which was established in 1988. At local community level John has been nominated by the Camera Club for the Mallow Sports and Leisure annual awards which pay tribute to all those who take part and are successful in their different sporting and leisure events. John has won the leisure award three times. Over the past fifteen years John has won 29 Irish Photographic Federation Gold medals together with numerous silver and bronze. The Photographic Society of Ireland have also honoured John with no less than five gold medals in the past ten years. John is Fellow of the Irish Photographic Federation, an Associate memberof the Royal Photographic Society and has an Excellence award from the International Federation of Photographic Art. He has achieved national and international acclaim for his work which has been exhibited throughout Ireland and in 2001 John was awarded a solo exhibition in Croatia as part of the Croatian Grand Prix Prize which he won in the year 2000. Johns' work has also been seen in exhibitions from Australia to mainland Europe and America.  John runs weekend workshops on advance topics in landsacpe Photography entitled "Images of Light Workshops".
