Des Coates: Testimonial - Workshop Dingle

September 2015

As a group of photo enthusiasts who had enjoyed John Hooton's book "Gathering Light" and attended one of his talks, we decided to enrol in one of his workshops in Dingle. We received a great welcome from Noreen who kept us supplied with food and chat during our stay in a very comfortable environment.

John took us to fabulous locations for sunrises and sunsets and in between showed us his photos & explained about light and composition as well as his workflow. We all agreed it was a wonderful photographic experience and we thank John for his advice and encouragement.

We left Dingle vowing to return.

PS I understand John has a new book coming out soon!

Just a wee note to thank you both for a truly enjoyable weekend. John for the photography and Noreen for the food and chat.We really loved everything. The course was most enjoyable for me. I think I benefited greatly from all your help as I had never used
either a tripod or filters before. I am now enthused and will make time to practise . I managed to get out for a wee while tonight and took some pictures on the beach at Downhill.
It took us about 10 hours to get home on Monday as we stopped in a fair few locations but we made it back ok . We hope Noreen had a good trip to London.
We will be back in Dingle for sure some time. If you are up here at any time please make sure to contact us.
Once again many thanks to you both

Beat wishes

Firstly let me thank you so much for the fantastic hospiality that was like
none I've ever experienced. (I put on 3lbs though!!). The house is perfect
and the lovely fire certainly enhanced the atmosphere. I appreciate all the
work you put in to making my stay so comfortable and the home baking
delicious.

From the photography point of view I was extremely happy with how John is
running the weekend. He took us to plenty of locations ans was very generous
with his knowledge and expertise. It was a very small timeframe and really
impossible to see how any more could be fitted in.  My objective was to get
out taking photos and that is exactly what I got out of my weekend. John has
a lovely temperment and my recommendation for him is to remain exactly the
same and keep his lovely sense of humour!!!!!

Thanks a million for the most memorable weekend and I hope to return next
year.

In terms of welcome, hospitality, accommodation, guest care, friendliness, keep doing what you're doing it couldn't be better, I've honestly never experienced anything like it and despite not knowing anyone, I felt at home immediately! 2. The days were full, great locations and John's work ethic and enthusiasm to get the most from the 48 hours despite tiredness and a couple of moans from guests is excellent.

John has further ignited my passion for creating amazing seascapes, and capturing the motion in the sea and the light. John paid close attention to each and every one of us.   Was delighted with his advice and wonderful encouragement.   I felt very much at ease and comfortable doing my own thing.  John was aware that I had a good grasp of the camera, sufficient to capture what I felt was pleasing to the eye and balanced.    My technical knowledge leaves alot to be desired, but was very pleased that John simply told me more or less to continue what I was doing.   I was chuffed to hear that. We packed so much in to the workshop, it was incredible.  John was most generous in bringing us to so many places.   It was exactly what I wanted, I wanted to be out shooting all the time.
